Geoff & The Cobblers vous entraînent dans le répertoire des bonnes vieilles chansons traditionnelles qui ont bercé plusieurs générations d’Irlandaises et d’Irlandais et sont toujours interprétés dans les pubs et dans les chaumières de la verte Erin depuis de nombreuses générations.

Elles vont de la prose de James Joyce aux chansons de marins en passant par les chants révolutionnaires, d'amour et toutes ces sortes de choses. Pour l'accompagner,

The Cobblers: Olivier (guitare, mandoline, mélodica, percussions, voix) et Dave (banjo, concertina, tin whistle, bodhrán et voix). Si, par chance, vous connaissez les refrains, ne vous privez pas de les reprendre en chœur.

Au cours des années 60, Geoff faisait partie du groupe Trianglophone dont le répertoire était essentiellement irlandais. Comme les trois mousquetaires, ce trio devinbt rapidement un quatuors et se composait alors de Geoff, Sean Connolly, Françis Dufourq et Brian Scanlon. Le groupe se produisait alors principalement à Paris et ses environs et son répertoire était inspiré des Clancy brothers, des Dubliners, de Planxty, de Paul Brady et Andy Irwin, etc. Leurs lieux de concerts étaient toutes les occasions de fêtes concernant l'Irlande  Par la suite, Geoff et Brian Scanlon s'installèrent en Suisse romande où ils reformèrent un groupe qui porta le nom de Slaînte et dont les activités furent notamment d'animer l'Association irlandaise de Genève et divers concerts à Genève et environs. En 2007, Geoff rencontra les Cobblers au cours de sessions irlandaises organisées à Crissier (VD), lesquelles réunissaient de nombreux fans de musique irlandaise. Son idée était de remettre au goût de jour ces nombreuses chansons chantées pendant des siècles dans les foyers irlandais et autres pubs à Dublin, Belfast, comme dans les comtés de Mayo, Galway, Cork, Donegal et bien d'autres encore. Il s'es5t vite rendu compte que ces chansons trouvaient un large public et que jeunes comme vieux en étaient friands et reprenaient volontiers les refrains en choeur. Geoff accompagne ses chansons à la guitare, pratique le tin whistle (ou flageolet) et, à l'occasion, joue de la guimbarde. l'harmonica et du Bodhran

In the sixties, Geoff was originaly singing with The Trianglophone, an irish singing trio (+ one like in the three musqueteers) in Paris at the time when irish music was hardly known in France. With Sean Connolly, Brian Scanlon and Françis Dufourq, the group was regularly performing in the Paris region also in the irish and the breton celtic youth centers. The inspiration was the Clancy brothers, the Dubliners, Clannad, Planxty, The Wolftones, Paul Brady and Andy Irvine. Moving to Switzerland, Geoff and Brian Scanlon decided to create a new group in the name of Slaínte in Geneva in the seventies which main purpose was to play for the Geneva irish association and various local concerts. Geoff met the actual Cobblers during multiple sessions of swiss and other fans of irish music from 1992 onwards. On various occasions, Geoff realised that the good irish songs were somehow ignored or forgotten. Compared to obviously talented instrumental irish traditionnal groups or celtic rock-folk style, proof was made that revival of good old songs wre mostly appreciated even from a young public.

Olivier est un musicien talentueux dans un nombre varié d'instruments et de styles dont la liste est longue. Il manie avec virtuosité la guitare, la mandoline, la basse, les percutions et dans certaines occasions, le mélodica et prête volontiers sa voix  aux refrains des chansons. Il ne dédaigne pas non plus apporter sa note comique dans certaines chansons narratives. Son historique musical fait état d'une participation aux groupes Gwenwed et Lrk, tous deux d'inspiration celtique.

A fond musician, capable of giving a swinging drive to every tune or instrument he gets to play, Olivier Pidoux brings his talent and experience to The Cobblers. His enthusiasm when it comes to have a good time on stage and share it with an audience has very naturaly lead him to join or start numerous bands, among them irish trad band Lark, also based in Switzerland.

Le troisième homme du trio vient récemment de faire son apparition, Il s'agit de David "Dave" Pierce (qui sait, ses ancêtres étaient-ils parents du fameux héros de la révolution irlandaise...), un Gallois d'origine rompu aux Gigues et aux Reels qui, lui aussi apporte ses harmonies vocales aux refrains du groupe. On lui connait aussi d'autres talents tels que la pratique du banjo cinq cordes qui se marie asgréablement avec les chansons de marins.

The third man of the trio is a talented Welsh fiddler named David Pierce (maybe related to the famous rebl heroe of the irish revolution). Well trained with jigs en reels David is an enthustaiastic traditionnal musician and sings in harmony at the couruses, On top of its violin virtuosity, he also plays the 5 strings banjo.
